Latino Educational Conference A Great Success!

Mount Laurel, New Jersey—The Twelfth Annual Latino Parent Education Conference, held on November 19-20, 2015 at the Westin Hotel in Mount Laurel, was a resounding success!

As in previous years, the event featured workshops, seminars, and presentations on education issues affecting the education of Latino children. The workshops emphasized the value of math and science as the basis for future success. In addition, workshops providing empowerment skills for parents were presented.

This was the second year the event was held in South Jersey and the conference attracted over 350 parents, teachers, principals and other interested individuals from Camden, Atlantic City, Trenton, Paterson, Jersey City, Cherry Hill and Mount Holly. In addition to the program, the event featured exhibitors, and cultural presentations.

Dr. Yolanda Méndez, Principal of Roberto Clemente Schools in Newark, presented a rousing speech which inspired the parents and all those present at the event. Senator Nilsa Cruz-Pérez , a friend of the Institute and our Latino parents, and Ivonne López, were presented the “Nuestros Niños” Award for their devotion and support.

We wish to thank the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) Ed Richardson, its Executive Director, and Carmen Gonzalez-Gannon, Director, for their continued support and sponsorship of these annual conferences.

Due to the generosity of our sponsors, parents, teachers and students received all educational materials and meals free of charge.

This year the conference was also sponsored by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), Wells Fargo Bank, PSE&G, and Grace/La Fe Foods. We wish to express our gratitude to Ms. Lenora Green form ETS, Wanda Saez form Wells Fargo and Linda Colón from La Fe for their support.
